Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, RSU 23 is a 700 student, three-school district seeking a Special Education Teacher to join our team. You will work with a team of providers at Jameson Elementary School to implement programming for students with intensive needs, primarily served in the special education setting. This position is anticipated pending budget approval. The successful candidate should possess the following:
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Citizenship, residency or work visa
- Maine Department of Education CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) https://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting
- Maintains or is eligible for Maine Department of Education Teaching Certificate (286 or 282 PreK and K-8 )
QUALIFICATIONS / JOB SUMMARY:
- Conduct academic evaluations and classroom observations
- Fulfill case management duties, including paperwork and consultation with classroom teachers
- Consult with team members to provide integrated programming
- Complete progress monitoring of all students on a scheduled basis
- Provide direct instruction in literacy, math, and daily living skills
- Develop and implement Positive Behavior Support Plans
- Supervise Educational Technicians
- Experience working with students with autism and/or cognitive disabilities; experience supporting students in the use of AAC devices
- Knowledge of Chapter 101 regulations
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and share best practices
- Excellent communication with parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote and support student success
- Demonstrated ability of understanding and supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students
- Interest in participating in the school community outside of the classroom
- Exemplary time management and organizational skills
