Position Summary: 1st Shift District Custodian

The District employee will provide support in all areas including cleaning the school facilities, hallways, classroom and lavatories, shoveling snow, and cleaning the outside buildings and grounds.

$24.22 per hour - Contract

The District employees

• Perform housekeeping duties as laid out and scheduled by the Head Custodian.
• Maintain a safe facility and follow safety procedures.
• Complete assigned work in a timely manner and with a high level of cleanliness.
• Maintain a good attendance record, report to work on time and complete work shifts.
• Assume specific duties not limited to housekeeping and include the good and welfare of the entire facility.
• Take self-initiative to maintain a high level of cleanliness with obvious hazards and clutter.
• Must be able to work independently and exhibit great pride in assigned duties.
• Demonstrate proper care and respect for equipment and supplies provided by the district to accomplish duties.
• Accept assigned overtime as scheduled.
• Cooperate, assist and get along with co-workers.
• Display courteous, polite and helpful behavior to students, faculty and parents.

The District employee must be able to

• Maintain a stationary position to operate computer, printer, telephone and other desktop equipment
• Hold a valid State of Connecticut driver's license.
• Communicate effectively

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• Working knowledge of custodial services

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
May be representative, but not all-inclusive of those associated with the position.

• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to acquire knowledge quickly and effectively.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, establish priorities and work independently.
• Ability to operate email and work with computer-based programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite programs.
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members and school staff.
• Ability to perform a skills/knowledge based walkthrough periodically.

Background Check

The District Grounds Maintenance employee must submit to a satisfactory

• CT Department of Children and Families background check.
• State and national criminal history record check.

Documents necessary to complete the check must be submitted within 10 days of hire.

Work Year

This is a 12-month position.
