Property Management Accountant
Job Summary
The Property Management Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of a portfolio of residential and/or commercial properties. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, supports property managers and owners, and maintains compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements for assigned properties
- Reconcile bank accounts, trust accounts, and general ledgers
- Record and track rent payments, security deposits, and operating expenses
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on delinquencies
- Process vendor invoices, ensure proper coding, and manage accounts payable
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Prepare owner distributions and financial reports
- Maintain accurate lease and tenant accounting records
- Support audits, tax preparation, and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with company policies and real estate regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2 years of accounting experience (property management or real estate preferred)
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles
- Experience with property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, RealPage)
- Advanced Excel skills
