Special Education Teacher
Parish Hill Middle-High School (RSD#11) is seeking a dedicated student-centered Special Education teacher who demonstrates the skills necessary for building relationships with students while providing an optimal learning environment for students with special needs in grades 7-12. Parish Hill Middle-High School was founded in 1967 and is the regional middle-high school for students residing in the towns of Chaplin, Hampton, and Scotland, Connecticut.
Parish Hill is responsible for educating approximately 150 students, as well as students ages 18 – 22 in our transition program, “PHTOPS”. Special Education caseloads at Parish Hill average between 10 and 15 students.
Candidates must have a strong understanding of student growth and developmental stages to effectively assess student needs and progress. The candidate will work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to differentiate instruction for students on their caseload.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development
- Demonstrate proficiency with CT-SEDS
- Conduct formal/informal assessments of students
- Organize/maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping
- Design effective instruction to engage unique learners
- Assist staff with implementing student IEPS and BIPs
- Serve as a resource to parents and staff, liaison between home and school.
- Help students develop positive self-concept
- Facilitate independence of students as learners
- Effectively assess student needs and progress
- Establish a positive learning environment
- Ability to supervise para-educators
- Maintain data and make data-driven decisions
Skills / Abilities:
- Knowledge of current best-practices, theories and assessment methods
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction
- Ability to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth
· Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or beyond in Special Education
- Connecticut Teaching Certificate in 165-Comprehensive Special Education, K-12
