Job Description: Math Instructional Coach
Reports to: Compensatory Education Director/Principal
Contract Days: 177 Days
Pay Scale: Teacher

Primary Purpose:
The math coach will support grade levels 1-8 (as appropriate to the campus level) in the implementation of the district math curriculum plan and program based on scientific research. The Coach will work directly with teachers providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions.
Qualifications:
Certification as Required by the Texas Education Agency
Appropriate to grade level assignment
18 graduate hours in math and/or science
or
Will commit to obtain 18 graduate hours in math

Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills

Experience:
Five years elementary teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct professional development for teachers
- Visit classrooms and provide feedback to teachers
- Teach demonstration lessons
- Facilitate study groups
- Coach and mentor teachers
- Assist with screening, diagnosing, and monitoring student progress
- Help determine appropriate intervention strategies
- Assist teachers to customize intervention programs for individual students
- Provide staff with support for the implementation of research-based practices
- Develop and provide materials for/with colleagues
- Develop curriculum for/with colleagues
- Co-plan lessons
- Hold team meetings (grade level, reading teachers)
- Analyze student work
- Interpret assessment data and help teachers use results for instructional decision making
- Co-teach lessons
- Conduct lesson study with teachers
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other professionals in planning programs to meet the needs of diverse populations of students
- Assist in implementation of balanced literacy program
- Assist in providing professional development for paraprofessionals
- Attend professional development training at the district and state level Compile and submit all required reports
