LITTLEFIELD ISD SEEKS FULL TIME EDUCATIONAL DIAGNOSTICIAN

Primary Purpose

Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education. Work cooperatively with instructional personnel and parents to provide the most appropriate instructional programs for students with disabilities and/or students requiring support services, as required by state and federal laws.

Education/Certification

Master's degree in educational assessment

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of current case law of related to students with disabilities; strict legal compliance with federal and state mandates
  • Knowledge of the education of special education students and strategies to facilitate learning
  • Knowledge of characteristics, etiology, and research related to cognitive, language, motor, and social/emotional aspects of emotional behavioral and learning disabilities, including students with dyslexia
  • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies (both academic/cognitive and behavioral)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and inter- and intra- personal skills

Experience

Two years teaching experience as required by law

Major Responsibilities And Duties

  • Receives student referrals; select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student

eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.

  • Serves as the head of the assessment team and assumes responsibility for the comprehensive and timely

assessment of students referred for special education through the established referral process.

  • Provides for professional growth in keeping abreast of current requirements and changes in state and

federal law as pertains to the education of the handicapped.

  • Conducts and participates in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARDC) to assist with

interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, transition, and development of Individual Education

Plans (IEPs) for students according to district procedures and state and federal regulations.

  • Provides specific remediation techniques for students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and learning

disabilities.

  • Advocates for students with disabilities.
  • Presents staff development training in assigned school to assist school personnel in identifying and

understanding students with disabilities.

  • Assists classroom teachers (General Education/Special Education) with implementation of the IEP.
  • Participates in the selection, upkeep, and inventory of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files confidential reports and other documents required.
  • Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local

board policy. Complies with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

  • Develops and maintains effective individual and group interpersonal relationships with educational

professionals, students, and parents.

  • Uses good judgement and tact in dealing with parents, students, and other education professionals.
  • Handles stressful situations in an objective manner, demonstrating control of anger and frustration.
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Director of Special Education may

assign.
