A Kindergarten teacher will be expected to create a classroom environment that fosters learning, personal growth, and a sense of belonging. The teacher establishes an effective rapport with students; motivates them to develop essential academic, social, and emotional skills; and builds positive relationships with families and colleagues to support student success.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, and other subjects to pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Uses a variety of instructional strategies and maintains a working knowledge of educational technology to enhance classroom learning.
• Translates lesson plans into engaging learning experiences to make the most effective use of instructional time.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior using positive behavior supports and proactive classroom management strategies to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
• Creates a classroom culture that supports students' social-emotional development by fostering empathy, resilience, self-regulation, and positive peer interactions.
• Evaluates students' academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates regularly with parents and guardians through conferences, written correspondence, and other means to discuss student progress and share information about the school program.
• Designs and maintains an engaging, developmentally appropriate learning environment with functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in district-provided in-service activities and self-directed professional growth opportunities.
