Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Admissions to oversee the admissions department for a behavioral health and substance abuse treatment program. This role is responsible for managing inbound leads, verifying insurance, coordinating client placements, supervising admissions staff, maintaining referral relationships, and maximizing census while ensuring ethical admissions practices.
The ideal candidate understands detox, residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care and can operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
ResponsibilitiesAdmissions & Intake
- Manage all inbound admissions calls, web inquiries, and referral sources
- Conduct client pre-screenings and determine appropriate level of care
- Coordinate intake logistics, transportation, and bed availability
- Verify insurance benefits and communicate financial expectations
- Ensure all required intake documentation is completed accurately
- Maintain organized tracking of all leads, admissions, and pending clients
Leadership & Operations
- Supervise admissions coordinators and intake staff
- Develop admissions workflows, scripts, and SOPs
- Monitor daily census and occupancy goals
- Improve admissions response times and conversion rates
- Collaborate with clinical, medical, and case management teams
- Ensure HIPAA compliance and ethical admissions standards
Business Development
- Build and maintain relationships with referral partners
- Conduct outreach to hospitals, therapists, interventionists, sober livings, and community providers
- Help generate consistent client flow through networking and relationship management
- Track referral performance and admissions metrics
Reporting & Systems
- Maintain CRM/EMR accuracy (KIPU, CollaborateMD, Airtable, etc.)
- Generate admissions reports and census updates
- Track conversion rates, referral sources, payer mix, and occupancy trends
- Assist ownership with growth planning and operational strategy
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of admissions experience in behavioral health or substance abuse treatment
- Strong understanding of detox, residential, PHP, and IOP operations
- Knowledge of commercial insurance and verification of benefits (VOB)
- Experience managing admissions pipelines and client coordination
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment
- Experience with CRM and EMR systems preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing referral relationships in behavioral health
- Experience supervising teams
- Experience with out-of-network insurance models
- Knowledge of utilization review and level-of-care criteria
Compensation
- Base Salary: $70,000–$120,000 depending on experience
- Performance bonuses tied to admissions and census growth
- Additional commission opportunities may be available
Schedule
- Full-time
- Weekends and after-hours availability as needed
