What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabricator/Welder position at REGENCY MILL SERVICES?
Job Overview
Regency Mill Services is seeking an experienced Fabricator/Welder to join our growing team. This role is responsible for cutting, fitting, and joining carbon steel, and stainless steel components in our shop and at customer sites to build and repair mechanical structures, equipment, and infrastructure.
The Welder/Fabricator will use a variety of welding processes and fabrication tools to produce accurate, high‑quality weldments that meet drawings, tolerances, and safety standards. The ideal candidate is precise, safety‑minded, and understands how different metals respond to heat, cutting, forming, and welding.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and weld symbols to plan layout, fit‑up, and welding procedures.
- Take and verify measurements; perform layout and marking on plate, structural shapes, and tubing for cutting and forming.
- Select appropriate welding process, filler metal, and parameters based on material type (carbon steel, stainless steel), thickness, and service requirements.
- Set up, fit, and tack components according to specifications, ensuring alignment, squareness, and correct joint preparation.
- Cut material using saws, torches, or plasma equipment, and prepare edges using grinders and other tools for sound weld quality.
- Weld components using manual or semi‑automatic processes (primarily MIG/GMAW; TIG/GTAW or SMAW as needed) in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
- Perform fabrication and repair on machinery, frames, chutes, guards, and other plant or structural components by replacing, rebuilding, and filling gaps or worn areas.
- Visually inspect welds and finished assemblies, check dimensions and tolerances, and correct defects or misalignment as required.
- Maintain welding and fabrication equipment in safe operating condition and follow all shop and site safety procedures, including proper PPE and hot‑work practices.
- Proven experience as a welder/fabricator working with carbon steel; experience with stainless steel is strongly preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with common welding processes and procedures (MIG required, TIG and stick a plus), including setup, parameter adjustment, and basic troubleshooting.
- Proficient in the safe use of fabrication tools and equipment, including saws, grinders, drills, clamps, squares, and precision measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, levels, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication details, and weld symbols, and translate them into accurate layout and fit‑up.
- Solid understanding of shop and field safety practices and consistent use of required PPE (hood/helmet, face shield, gloves, hearing and eye protection, etc.).
- Good manual dexterity, steady hand, and strong attention to detail in both weld appearance and dimensional accuracy.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal directions.
Education, Training, and Experience
- Successful completion of a welding or metal fabrication apprenticeship or formal training program required.
- AWS or equivalent professional welding certification is preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of MIG welding experience (required); 1 year of general welding and 1 year of fabrication experience (preferred).
Must have reliable transportation.
