JOB DESCRIPTION


Summary


Regal Boats is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Test Tank Expert to lead advanced testing, diagnostics, and quality validation of vessel systems. This role requires in-depth technical proficiency, strategic troubleshooting capabilities, and a leadership mindset to ensure all systems meet the highest performance and safety standards. The Test Tank Expert serves as the final checkpoint before vessels leave the facility, playing a critical role in delivering an exceptional customer experience.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct rigorous, final-stage functional testing of all major shipboard systems, including propulsion, steering, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  2. Lead advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis for complex system issues.
  3. Mentor and support Test Tank Technicians and coordinate day-to-day testing activities.
  4. Ensure strict adherence to internal quality standards, ABYC, and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
  5. Interface with engineering, assembly, and quality assurance teams to resolve discrepancies and continuously improve testing protocols.
  6. Manage and maintain calibration schedules for test instruments and tools.
  7. Prepare detailed and accurate technical reports and recommend corrective actions.
  8. Contribute to the development and refinement of testing procedures, checklists, and SOPs.
  9. Champion continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and safety in the testing environment.


Required Qualifications

  1. Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience in boat manufacturing or shipbuilding, with advanced testing and diagnostic responsibilities.
  2. Deep knowledge of marine systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, and propulsion.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.
  4. Experience mentoring junior technicians and/or leading small teams.
  5. Strong documentation and technical reporting abilities.
  6. Proven commitment to safety, accuracy, and craftsmanship.
  7. Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  8. Conversational English and strong communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications


  1. Advanced certifications in marine systems, testing, or quality assurance.
  2. Prior experience implementing new testing protocols or process improvements.
  3. Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  4. Experience with project management tools and systems.
  5. ABYC or equivalent credentials are highly desirable.


Work Environment

Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature, reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times.


Physical Demands


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to climb into and out of the boats using stairs. The employee must frequently be able to lift 50 pounds, work 10-hour days with most of the time being on their feet, and work overtime, whether planned or unplanned.
