Located in the Pine Hills community of Albany, NY, RISSE supports refugees and immigrants to build new lives and thrive in the Capital Region. We do this through language classes, immigration and employment assistance, youth programming, and case management. Our vision is for New York’s Capital Region to be a model community for welcoming, supporting, and celebrating refugees and immigrants.

Position Description: Immigrant Resource Coordinator (Full-time)

The Immigrant Resource Coordinator (IRC) will recruit, retain, and coordinate a network of immigrant volunteers, called “Immigrant Helping Hands,” to inform the development of activities to respond to the needs within immigrant communities in the Mid Capital Region (Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady Counties). The IRC will organize outreach activities and community events to recruit volunteers, build relationships with immigrant communities, promote RISSE programs, and share resources to help newcomers achieve independence and integration in the local community. The IRC will make specific outreach efforts to connect with underserved immigrant populations, including individuals who are low-income, seniors, LGBTQ -identified, living in rural areas, and living with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Reports to: The Executive Director, who will at least annually evaluate the candidate’s performance on the basis of the elements of this job description and the personnel policies of RISSE.

Qualifications: The Immigrant Resource Coordinator must have: minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent; experience recruiting and coordinating diverse volunteers; strong written and verbal communication skills; strong cultural competency; experience planning and marketing community events; the ability to work independently; and a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle. Preferred Qualifications: a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; experience working with immigrant communities; experience in community development and training with underserved communities; experience with collaborative decision making; ability to track data and report on project outcomes; ability to handle competing priorities and meet deadlines; fluency in English and at least one additional language.

Hours and Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week, twelve months per year; non- exempt.

Job Description:

  • Volunteer Recruitment and Retention: Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment and retention plan for a minimum of five “Immigrant Helping Hands” volunteers; develop orientation materials and training opportunities for volunteers; meet regularly with volunteers to share information and learn of needs within immigrant communities; develop methods of communication to share and accept feedback about programs and needs; and provide coaching and skills development for immigrant volunteers.
  • Event and Program Planning: Plan and host information sessions for immigrant community members on relevant topics; collaborate with volunteers and staff to market and promote RISSE programs and events to the Mid Capital Region’s immigrant communities; develop surveys to identify program topics; host roundtables to connect immigrants to others in the community and promote common understanding and networked service delivery; develop relationships with other service providers and promote access and services to immigrant communities.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with immigrant communities to build relationships, identify programming needs, and promote awareness of RISSE and its mission and programs; interpret RISSE services to immigrant communities to develop relationships with and seek feedback from local stakeholders; represent RISSE in speaking engagements in the community and to key immigrant stakeholder groups; participate in developing social media and web content; and participate in all calls and webinars with the NYS Office for New Americans.
  • Compliance: Assist the Executive Director in ensuring the integrity and quality of the programs, including observance of all federal, state, and local regulations, and ensure the program meets all compliance requirements and deliverables of the grant program.
  • Training: Complete initial orientation and training and attend all trainings as required for the job and as directed by the Executive Director.

Compensation: $25/hr; This position is grant funded and will continue as long as grant funds allow.

Process: Candidates for this position will complete three interviews: 1) initial phone screening 2) interview with hiring manager 3) final interview with the Executive Director. We expect to begin interviews by 5/1/26 and make a final offer by 5/26/26.
