Position Overview
The Staff Accountant works as part of the finance team which plans, manages, and executes all accounting functions. Primarily responsible for the recording of revenue, expenses, reconciliations, and journal entries. All team members provide support and back-up for colleagues working on other entities.
Responsibilities
- Initiates and prepares journal entries;
- Prepares monthly allocations for insurance premiums (health, property, etc.);
- Prepare payroll journal entries;
- Reconcile bank accounts monthly;
- Reconciles assigned accounts monthly;
- Responsible for expensing prepaid balance sheet accounts;
- Responsible for reconciling and importing donor contributions into the finance ERP system.
- Updates and maintains the fixed asset module and schedules to include adding and disposing assets, construction in progress reconciliation and depreciation schedules.
- Support month-end and year end close process;
- Prepare year end accrual journal entries when needed;
- Assist with auditor documentation requests;
- Assist Grant Accountant with invoice reporting as requested;
- Support Controller with ensuring appropriate internal controls are in place and adhered to by staff;
- Supports Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements;
- Supports Grant Accountant and Controller in all reporting needs;
- Backup for Accounts Payable and or Purchasing staff as needed; and
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and 3 years’ experience in accounting or finance; OR 7 years experience in accounting or finance in lieu of degree.
- Advanced experience with Excel required.
- GAAP Accounting knowledge and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years’ experience with a nonprofit organization and grant management,
- 4 years’ Grant accounting experience; and
- Experience with Sage or NetSuites financial systems
