Refractory Service, Inc. (RSI) is a specialized contractor that provides custom and complete refractory solutions. Customers include commercial boilers, power or ethanol plants, foundries, steel mills, heat treaters, refineries, and others who require heat-resistant materials for high temperature processes.
Impact of the Role
The maintenance supervisor supervises and coordinates all aspects of maintenance for the company including maintaining all facilities, buildings, and grounds. The position also oversees the maintenance of all company equipment including manufacturing equipment, vehicles, forklifts, and more.
What the Role Does
- Maintain and upkeep the physical grounds of the facility to include the following activities; tend to and repair the parking lot, building, and yard area.
- Sprays fertilizers and insecticides as needed; rake and remove leaves; pick up and dispose of trash on lawns and in parking lots; remove snow using snow removal equipment and shovels; spread snow and ice melting chemicals on ice and snow on sidewalks and parking areas as needed; all other grounds related activities.
- Perform building maintenance activities to include: collect and remove all waste, placing recyclable materials in the proper containers; wax and repair floors; steam clean carpets and rugs; replace burned out lights; replace or repair light fixtures, outlets, switches; dispose of hazardous wastes following correct procedures; maintain and repair bathroom and drinking fixtures and plumbing; replace or repair ceiling tiles; all other building related activities.
- Move office furniture and equipment from office to office or building to building.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs of all mechanical equipment assigned to building and grounds, to include snow removal equipment, forklift truck, welding equipment, brick saws, power tools, snow removal equipment, and dust collections systems, etc.
- Coordinate the repair and maintenance of all field equipment directly with warehouse supervisor and operations team.
- Perform regular visual inspections of heating and cooling systems and coordinate repairs directly with an outside vendor as needed.
- Monitor and maintain building and grounds supplies, ordering as necessary.
- Oversee the maintenance and repairs of all fleet vehicles working with maintenance department to schedule repairs.
- Run errands and pick up supplies and parts as requested.
- Inspect fire extinguishers and emergency lighting, ensuring their operability.
- Respond to fire alarms; extinguish fires if possible.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documentation, etc.
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
What You Bring
Knowledge, Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses
- Valid driver's license
- OSHA-10 or higher safety certification
Experience
- 5 years of related experience in maintenance with at least 2 years of leading others directly
- Combined experience and education will be considered
- Experience operating utility knife, razor knife, nippers, swivel knife, files, broachers, drills, saws, arbor, inserts, grinders, saws, air hoses, cooling fixtures, magnifying glass, insert fixtures, gauges, brushes, and pneumatic machinery.
