What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optical Liquids Production Manager position at Refractive Solutions™?
Refractive Solutions™ specializes in producing refractive index liquids, immersion oils, and other optical materials used in microscopy, digital morphology, materials identification, and scientific imaging. We’re a growing team with a strong scientific foundation and a commitment to quality, consistency, and reliability. If you’re motivated by hands-on work and excited to help build a manufacturing capability from the ground up, this role could be a perfect match.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing the entire production lifecycle — and shaping how we scale our operations. This includes:
- Leading daily production of optical liquids — batching, mixing, quality checks, and bottling
- Collaborating with R&D to refine processes and improve efficiency
- Maintaining and calibrating laboratory and production equipment
- Building and supervising a small production team as we grow
- Coordinating purchasing and inventory of raw materials
- Ensuring products meet quality, documentation, and safety standards
- Identifying process improvements and implementing solutions
This role will begin as a remote position, with responsibilities focused on process development, planning, documentation, and supplier coordination. As our production facility becomes operational, the role will transition to an on-site position, including hands-on production, equipment oversight, and staff supervision.
We value practical experience and thoughtful problem-solving. A degree helps but is not required — if you’ve successfully managed or participated in production operations, you could be an excellent fit.
You’re likely a good match if you:
- Have experience in laboratory-scale or small-batch manufacturing (chemical, optical, or similar)
- Know how to maintain organized, well-documented production environments
- Are comfortable supervising or mentoring others
- Keep projects moving, anticipate challenges, and manage details effectively
- Understand the importance of safety and compliance in a chemical or laboratory setting
A background in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields is beneficial — but hands-on experience is equally valuable.
This role offers the opportunity to help build something from scratch — to shape workflows, guide production practices, and be part of a team that values reliability, precision, and steady growth.
It’s a chance to take ownership, contribute ideas, and work closely with colleagues who are aligned toward a clear mission and practical outcomes.
