Description

The Emergency Department Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and leadership of Emergency Department operations. This role ensures efficient patient flow, appropriate staffing aligned with patient acuity, and real-time support for clinical teams in a high-demand environment.

The Manager maintains a consistent presence within the department, supports staff during high-acuity situations, and oversees key Emergency Department programs including trauma readiness, stroke and STEMI response, pediatric emergency readiness, and emergency preparedness.

All RRH employees must perform their job responsibilities in accordance with hospital policies, accrediting organizations, federal and state regulations, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, as applicable.


Requirements

Job Qualifications:

Education:

Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (BSN preferred)

License & Certification:

Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas. Compact license accepted.

BLS certification required within 90 days of hire

ACLS and PALS certification required within 6 months of hire

TNCC preferred

Experience:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years Emergency Department clinical experience

Previous leadership or charge nurse experience preferred

Skills:

Strong leadership and organizational skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Effective communication and team coordination

Ability to make timely decisions in high-acuity situations

Ability to maintain situational awareness and respond to operational needs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Leadership and Coordination

Oversee daily Emergency Department operations to ensure efficient patient flow and timely care delivery

Align staffing with patient volume and acuity

Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges with interdisciplinary teams

Monitor department activity and address operational barriers in real time

Lead departmental huddles and communicate updates to staff

Perform additional leadership duties as assigned


B. Clinical Support

Provide clinical support during high-demand and high-acuity situations

Assist with trauma activations, pediatric cases, and critical events as needed

Support staff with escalation and coordination of patient care

Reinforce adherence to clinical standards and protocols


C. Program Oversight

Support and maintain Emergency Department programs including trauma readiness, stroke and STEMI response, pediatric emergency readiness, whole blood program, and emergency preparedness

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure program readiness and compliance

Monitor program performance and support ongoing improvement


D. Compliance and Documentation

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements

Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record

Participate in quality improvement activities and audits

Ensure patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations

Performs other duties as assigned
