A Lumber Yard Employee is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the yard, ensuring customers receive prompt, safe, and courteous assistance with their building material needs. This role is physically demanding and primarily outdoors, requiring adaptability to all weather conditions. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, organized, and committed to providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Assistance: Greet customers upon arrival, aid them in locating the correct products, and ensure all items are loaded safely onto their vehicles.
- Loading and Unloading: Load and assist in unloading delivery trucks, with emphasis on serving customers efficiently and safely.
- Material Handling: Regularly bend, lift, and twist to move materials. Safely lift and carry loads of 75 to 100 lbs. on a frequent basis, with potential for heavier lifting as required.
- Yard Organization: Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the material yard. Ensure materials are properly stacked, labeled, and easy to access.
- Safety Practices: Follow all established safety protocols and use appropriate lifting techniques and equipment to prevent injuries.
- Assisting with Deliveries: Support drivers and delivery teams as needed, including loading materials for transport and assisting with off-site deliveries.
- Inventory Support: Assist with stock counts, report low inventory, and alert supervisors of any damaged or missing materials.
- Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other yard equipment as authorized and trained (if applicable).
- Teamwork: Collaborate with other yard and store employees to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer experiences.
Working Conditions
- Majority of work performed outdoors, exposed to changing weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
- Physical requirements include frequent bending, lifting, twisting, and carrying heavy objects.
- Must be able to safely lift 75–100 lbs. regularly; heavier lifting may occasionally be required.
