Job Summary
Reeve Agri Energy, which produces ethanol for biofuel, and feed byproducts for Reeve Cattle Company (a sister entity) is seeking a quality and experienced Ethanol Plant & Feed Mill Lab Technician.The Lab tech must be humble, hungry and smart. They need to work safe, be on time, be at work when scheduled, work as a good team member and communicate effectively. This person will lead and direct all aspects of the quality control lab, as well as oversee lab safety programs and policies. The Lab tech is responsible for maximizing chemical use in plant operations to achieve product quality and quantity by testing and analyzing products in all process points. Responsible for awareness and compliance with all local, state and federal regulations as they are applicable to this position and in relation to the plant. The Lab tech will support all policies, goals and objectives of the company, and will represent the company in a knowledgeable and professional manner. Ethanol industry preferred, but not required. Experience in development and management of safety programs and regulations necessary. Requires ability to lead. Requires strong organizational and time management skills; as well as to be detail-oriented, possess good time management skills and be proficient in the use of computers such as Microsoft office applications. Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the job.
Summary of Essential Job Functions Required, But Not limited to:
· Lead and direct all aspects of the quality control lab.
· Responsible for training operators on the use of equipment and understanding the results. Train employees on quality control tests in all aspects of production and the proper field sample techniques.
· Responsible for meeting quality objectives for all manufactured products by maintaining awareness of plant and feed mill operations and process conditions.
· Responsible for identifying and communicating problems or changes in processes to Plant Manager.
· Oversee the operation of lab equipment including GC, HPLC, brix refractometer, moisture analyzer, Karl Fisher Columat titrometer, gravity tests, proof hydrometer, yeast counts and viability, moisture tests, water analysis, and other tests.
· Read/follow and perform ASTM standards tests.
· Maintain dialogue with chemical, yeast, and enzyme suppliers to ensure service, lowest pricing, technical support, and latest industry knowledge.
· Establish testing protocols and ensure that test results are repeatable and accurate.
· Maintain lab inventory of equipment, daily inventory of chemicals & maintain excel reports. Rotate weekends for quality control and learn the scale house operations in receiving of all commodities of the business.
· Coordinate special testing requested by operations.
· Assist in research and development by working with Plant Manager on various projects.
· Oversee lab safety programs. Participate in and enforce PSM and PHA throughout the facility. Participate in all safety related discussion and cultural development.
· Maintain adequate safety policy information and current lab SDS sheets.
· Complete all compliance reports as required. Submit to Plant Manager timely to allow for completion of process and mailing.
· Must be aware of and fulfill all regulatory requirements.
· Submit weekly QA report to Plant Manager, General Manager and Owner.
· Complete all tasks assigned by Plant Manager, General Manager and Owner.
· Maintain confidentiality of all records and company matters.
· Maintain high level of service and work performance, promote team environment, and maintain pleasant work environment. Promote Reeve Agri Energy in the community.
· In emergency situations, required to come in and trouble shoot/fix or prepare alternate test methods for quality control as well as assist in operation of the plant.
· Operate equipment, skid steer & forklift to move process chemicals.
