POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in bridging finance and technology, ensuring systems support, accurate, efficient, and compliant financial operations, moving beyond manual tasks to strategic data utilization.
This role is responsible for managing daily accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and audits, but crucially leverages technology (ERP, data analytics) to streamline processes, improve data integrity, automate tasks, and ensure efficient financial system use for accurate reporting and compliance, bridging accounting principles with tech solutions. A strong cost accounting background will be required.
The Assistant Controller will also act as a business partner supporting operations, human resources, quality, and other areas of the organization to utilize data to discover trends, draw conclusions, and make informed decisions.
This position will be located in our Cleveland, OH Headquarter office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assistant Controller:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Assist in preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses, using ERP/accounting software.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Help design, implement, and monitor controls; ensure adherence to GAAP/IFRS and regulatory requirements.
- Strong cost accounting knowledge and understanding of business practices and costing by product, line, customer, etc.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee GL, reconciliations, journal entries, and month/year-end close processes.
- Strategic Data Storytelling: Support the creation and implementation of key performance indicators across the organization to drive storytelling and decision making.
- Process Improvement: Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
- Payroll & Tax: Acts as payroll backup for hourly and salaried payroll. Provides relevant information to CPA firm in order to meet tax deadlines
IT & Systems Management:
- Utilize and manage accounting software (Syspro) to facilitate processes and maintain records.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements, automation, and data integration, including EDI.
- Support implementation of new financial systems or modules.
- Ensure data integrity and troubleshoot system-related accounting issues.
- Audit Support: Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, providing system-generated data and explanations.
- Team Leadership: Mentor junior accounting staff and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate closely with Regulatory/Quality, Sales, HR, and Operations to ensure compliant, impactful decision-making.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s in accounting/finance; CPA or CMA a plus.
- 5 years in accounting/finance, with strong understanding of accounting principles.
- Strong cost accounting background
- Proven proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Strong strategic and analytical acumen, with creative storytelling instincts
