The Franklin Lakes Community Center in Partnership with REED Autism Services are looking for a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Gym Attendant who is passionate about creating a safe, clean, and welcoming fitness environment for our members.
Job Overview
The Gym Attendant role is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all community center members. This role oversees the general upkeep of the fitness floor, ensures equipment is properly organized, and provides excellent customer service to patrons.
THE GYM at Franklin Lakes Community Center is open seven days a week, including weekends. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM, and Saturday through Sunday, 6:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Scheduled days and hours may vary based on business needs.
Work Schedule
This position offers a minimum of 16 hours per week, with the opportunity for additional hours as needed. Applicants must be available to work evening and weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Facility Upkeep: Maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of the fitness floor, including re-racking weights, organizing mats, and clearing walkways.
- Sanitization: Ensure all fitness equipment and high-touch surfaces are consistently sanitized and hygiene stations are fully stocked.
- Member Experience: Provide excellent customer service by warmly greeting members, answering basic facility questions, and fostering a positive gym environment.
- Safety & Maintenance: Regularly monitor the gym floor to identify and resolve potential safety hazards, and promptly report any broken equipment or maintenance issues to management.
- Policy Enforcement: Gently remind patrons of gym etiquette and community center rules when necessary.
- Opening & Closing Procedures: Execute comprehensive facility start-up and shutdown protocols, including secure locking procedures and alarm system management.
- Emergency Preparedness: Maintain knowledge of emergency exit protocols, incident reporting procedures, and onsite safety equipment locations.
Requirements and Skills
- Valid certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED, or the ability to secure these credentials within 60 days of employment
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proactive approach to facility maintenance and organization.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, bend, and safely lift/move gym equipment (up to 45 lbs).
- Previous experience in fitness, customer service, or hospitality is a plus, but not required.
