Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified Duty Officer to serve at the rank of Fire Captain or Fire Apparatus Engineer. The successful candidate will fill one of the three shift positions that provide 24/7 staffing for the District. Minimum qualifications for either rank is certification as an Emergency Medical Technician by the Coastal Valleys EMS Agency, ICS100, ICS200, IS700-NIMS, S-130, S-190 and L-180. Additional requirements are possession of a valid California Class B driver's license or equivalent DMV firefighter’s endorsement and be insurable. The Fire Captain position is a supervisory and skilled firefighting officer that requires a minimum of five (5) years of firefighting experience.
Overtime is compensated per the Fair Labor Standards Act. The District offers paid time off, retirement contributions and health insurance benefits.
The RVCFD provides all-risk fire protection services to its 60.5 square miles of unincorporated communities. In 2025, it responded to over 700 incidents for service. RVCFD employs a Fire Chief, three full time shift Duty Officers, allowing 24/7 coverage and a thirty-two hour a week Clerk. The current volunteer firefighter roster is 24.
RVCFD is governed by five Board of Directors elected by the voters of the District.
