What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Teacher position at Redwood Cooperative School?
Under the supervision of the Head of School, Redwood's Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades PK-8, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction.
The ideal Redwood Music Teacher will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned experiences which include music theory, history, standard notation reading, music composition, voice, and the introduction of instrument work.
The Redwood music teacher is responsible for organizing and producing division-based and school-wide performances each year. The current position is for a part time teacher that could grow into a full time position in the future. The teacher would work Monday. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday(could be Wednesday instead of Friday) 9:45 am to 2:45 pm.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Understanding of child development and experience working with a range of needs and abilities
- Classroom teaching experience

- Master's degree
- 3 years classroom teaching experience (prek-8th grade)

- Experience or familiarity with Project Based Learning
- Experience or familiarity with Progressive Education
- Experience or familiarity with Emergent Curriculum
- Skills in creating documentation and portfolios
- Experience or familiarity with anti-bias and inclusive curriculum
- Strong skills in supporting social-emotional growth and facilitating conflict resolution with students, and being in respectful partnership with parents
- Familiarity with the philosophy of the school (amongst other things, an inquiry-based approach to education in a non-competitive atmosphere), and an understanding of progressive education will be an asset
- Self-motivated, self-disciplined, professional, and energetic
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
- Ability to work as part of a close-knit team
- Interest in creating curriculum that balances socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical development
General Duties/Skills:
- Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music and choral music to elementary students.
- Employs recognized curricula to develop music programming suitable for a progressive, project-based school.
- Works with other Arts and classroom faculty to integrate music instruction into classroom instruction and provide additional arts opportunities in cooperation with arts faculty.
- Plans/executes a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each student. Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels.
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Evaluates each student's musical growth, performance, and musical understanding. Assesses each
- individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
- Bring a kind attitude and enthusiasm to work collaboratively with additional music and fine arts faculty
- to create enriching arts experiences.
- Orff Schulwerk 1 required. Orff Schulwerk 2 preferred.
