Summary

Redwire Space Missions is looking for a bold, visionary Director of Electrical Engineering to help build the future of spaceflight from our Littleton, CO campus. In this role, you will lead and grow a high‑performing Electrical Engineering organization that sits at the heart of our Space Missions portfolio, driving innovation across avionics, power systems, communications, and advanced electrical design. You’ll shape the technical direction of multiple spacecraft programs, mentor and elevate exceptional engineering talent, and personally contribute as a hands‑on leader solving some of the toughest challenges in space hardware. If you’re energized by fast‑moving missions, cross‑functional collaboration, and delivering reliable, mission‑critical space systems, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on a rapidly scaling organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale the Electrical Engineering functional organization in support of multiple Space Missions programs, spanning avionics, electrical power systems (EPS), and RF/optical communications, and advanced electrical design.
  • Provide direct technical leadership, serving as a hands‑on engineering authority who guides architectures, solves complex program challenges, and ensures mission success.
  • Drive tight alignment with Systems Engineering to maintain rigorous requirements traceability, achieve design closure, and ensure verification and test readiness.
  • Partner across functions (Mechanical, Systems, Software, I&T) to support integration, test, and verification of electrical units, assemblies, and subsystems.
  • Drive preparation and readiness for program gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR), ensuring technical rigor, maturation, and low technical risk.
  • Establish and uphold engineering excellence by developing best practices, design standards, process and workflows, and overall technical discipline.
  • Grow, mentor, and elevate engineering talent, driving technical growth, performance management, and long‑range workforce planning.
  • Contribute as a domain expert to proposals, customer engagements, technical trade studies, and strategic decisions that shape the future of Redwire Space Missions.

Ideal Experience

  • 16 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of experience supporting commercial or government space programs.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical or functional leadership role.
  • Strong technical background in spacecraft avionics, guidance, navigation & control (GNC), electrical power systems, networking & encryption, or RF communications.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, processes, or governance frameworks across multiple programs.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.

Desired Skills

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven leadership of complex spacecraft avionics development as an IPT Lead, Subsystem Lead, or Responsible Engineer, with accountability for cost, schedule, technical performance, risk management, and cross-discipline integration. Experience with agile execution is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated success managing, mentoring, and developing engineers or technical leads within a matrixed or functional organization, including performance management, team growth, and capability development.
  • Deep familiarity with modern digital engineering ecosystems, including integration across ECAD, MCAD, simulation environments, configuration management systems, and requirements traceability platforms (e.g., JAMA, DOORS). Experience driving digital transformation or model-based workflows is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and trade avionics designs at the system level, including hardware/software partitioning, fault management, redundancy strategies, and interface definition with spacecraft bus and payload systems.
  • Experience leading hardware through full lifecycle development from concept and requirements definition through design, analysis, build, integration, environmental test, and on-orbit operations support.
  • Experience establishing or improving engineering processes, design standards, and development workflows, for avionics or electronics subsystems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder alignment skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical decisions, risks, alternatives, and program impacts to both executive leadership and engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, balancing strategic direction with hands-on technical engagement as needed.
  • Active U.S. security clearance.
  • Ability to travel - an average of 15% travel may be required.
