Senior Accountant

Job Description

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial activities, ensuring the accuracy of financial reports, and supporting the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and reconciliations. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in project accounting within the mining, Construction or contracting industry, a solid understanding of financial processes, and proficiency in accounting software, including Oracle Fusion and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Project Accounting: Manage and oversee project accounting activities, including job cost tracking, invoicing, revenue recognition, and project financial reporting.
• Budget Preparation: Assist in the preparation and analysis of annual budgets for various mining projects and overall company operations, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements for project-based and corporate financials.
• Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Ensure that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and identify discrepancies or issues that require resolution.
• Financial Analysis: Provide detailed financial analysis to assist management in decision-making and strategic planning.
• Internal Controls and Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal controls, financial policies, and procedures. Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Oracle Fusion and Excel Reporting: Utilize Oracle Fusion for financial reporting, analysis, and data management. Maintain proficiency in Excel for advanced data analysis, financial modeling, and reporting.
• Audit Support: Assist in the preparation and coordination of external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Tax and Compliance: Ensure accurate tax filings and compliance with all regulatory tax requirements.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to provide financial support and ensure alignment on financial goals and objectives.
• If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
• Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards.
• Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures on site.
• Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
• Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week as required.
• Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Preferred professional certification, such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
  
  

Work Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, with a focus on project accounting, budget preparation, financial reporting, and balance sheet reconciliation.
• Prefer project related experience in mining or construction.
  
  

Knowledge Required:

• Possess strong financial analysis skills.
• Strong skill of working on ERP systems.
• Ability to process computer data, format and generate reports.
• Working knowledge of tax codes and filings.
• Excellent proficiency working with Microsoft platforms, especially “excel.”
• Experience in Oracle Fusion or other ERP systems.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS, etc.) and financial regulations
• Able to demonstrate proficiency in budgeting, invoicing, billing, report writing, etc.
• Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
