The HSET Field Specialist is responsible for delivering and auditing training programs tailored to underground operations. This includes safety protocols, operation of equipment, emergency response, and compliance with industry regulations. The Trainer ensures that all employees, from new hires to seasoned workers, receive consistent training that meets organizational standards and legal requirements.


  • Training Program Delivery & Quality Assurance
    • Implement comprehensive training programs for underground operations, including equipment operation, task safety, and emergency response.
    • Conduct on-site training sessions and workshops in an underground environment to individual and group-based trainees, ensuring training material is relevant, up-to-date, and effectively delivered.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure all training programs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
    • Conduct regular safety briefings and drills to reinforce the importance of safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Skills Assessment and Certification
    • Assess the skill levels of personnel through practical and theoretical evaluations.
    • Provide certification for employees on the successful completion of training programs, ensuring they meet the required competency levels.
  • Training Materials Development
    • Develop and maintain training materials, manuals, and documentation, ensuring they are accessible and understandable to all employees.
    • Utilize a variety of training methods to accommodate different learning styles, including hands-on practice, classroom instruction, and digital learning tools.
  • Performance Monitoring and Feedback
    • Monitor the performance of employees in the field to identify further training needs or adjustments to training programs.
    • Provide constructive feedback to employees and management on training outcomes and individual progress.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work closely with management, safety personnel, and operational leaders to align training programs with organizational goals and operational requirements.
    • Serve as a point of contact for training-related queries and concerns from employees and management.
  • Driving Requirement
    • If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Work Areas
    • Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Interpretation
    • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Direction
    • Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Confidentiality
    • Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
  • Compliance
    • Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
    • Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
  • Work Hours
    • Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.

Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist other job functions as required

Education:

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.

  • Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) preferred.
  • MSHA Instructor Surface and Underground.
  • Incident Investigation Training.
Redpath Train the Trainer qualified.

Work Experience and Knowledge Required:

  • Proven experience in an underground operations role, with a strong understanding of the specific challenges and safety requirements.
  • Certified Trainer, with qualifications relevant to underground operations (e.g., Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate a diverse workforce.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective training programs.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding underground environments and adapt to varying conditions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of the mining industry underground environment.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work).
Knowledge and understanding of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Appointed as site trainer.
