CLASS TITLE: PE/SPORTS FACILITIES CUSTODIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations, perform routine custodial duties in support of high school physical education and athletic activities; maintain locker room, gymnasium and other assigned areas in a safe, clean and orderly condition
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform routine custodial duties in support of physical education and athletic activities; sweep, mop, wax and strip floors; spot mop spills; vacuum offices and other facilities as required; maintain locker room, gymnasium and other assigned physical education areas in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Clean locker rooms, gymnasiums, offices, lounges, workshops, athletic rooms, hallways, field house, press box, pump house and other facilities as assigned; dust, sanitize and wipe down lockers, furniture, doors, countertops, equipment and woodwork; remove gum, debris and graffiti as needed.
Prepare gymnasium, fields and other athletic facilities for physical education and other activities; prepare, arrange, set-up and assemble equipment for physical education activities, assemblies and sports events as assigned; dismantle and clean up equipment following events and activities.
Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, showers, toilets and urinals; fill dispensers with paper towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; clean mirrors, tile, walls, counters and windows; unclog drains and toilets.
Pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walkways and areas adjacent to physical education facilities; sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to school buildings; empty waste receptacles; replace trash liners; hose down concrete, asphalt, locker rooms and other areas as assigned.
Clean and maintain swimming pool as assigned by the position; brush and vacuum pools, hose down surrounding decks; clear pool drains and gutters; check, and apply chemicals as appropriate to maintain proper pH and water chemistry levels.
Lock and unlock doors as appropriate; turn lights on and off; maintain security of assigned areas according to established guidelines.
Operate custodial equipment such as mops, vacuums, small hand and power tools, carpet cleaners, buffer/scrubber machines, sweepers, blowers, pressure washers and other equipment.
Launder and dry athletic uniforms and physical education clothing as required; sort, match and store athletic uniforms.
Report vandalism and safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate staff; respond to emergency custodial requests as needed; replace light bulbs; perform minor repairs on lockers and equipment; refer maintenance and repair needs to appropriate staff.
Monitor inventory levels of athletic and cleaning supplies as assigned; assist in ordering, receiving and maintaining inventory of supplies; maintain equipment storage areas in an orderly condition.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in modern custodial work.
Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning floors, carpets, equipment, walls and fixtures.
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
Operation, set up and assembly of standard athletic equipment.
Requirements of maintaining athletic facilities and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Proper lifting techniques.
ABILITY TO:

Maintain the high school swimming pool in a clean and sanitary condition as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: one year of general custodial experience.
