Job Title: Mentor

Location: Oasis Village, Redmond Oregon

Reports to: Program Manager

FLSA Status: Hourly 0-40 hours/week

Wage: $43,680 - $47,840 per year

Summary

Redmond Oasis Village Project is a nonprofit organization committed to providing shelter, support, and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness in Central Oregon. We believe everyone deserves a safe and dignified place to call home, and our shelter plays a crucial role in building a path towards home for unhoused people in our community.

The Mentor plays a key role in providing support to Participants to achieve their goals. The Mentor assists Participants with their unique needs on a daily basis. The Mentor supports their individual goals and teaches Participants life skills such as how to properly clean, food handling safety, navigating resources and many others. The Mentor participates in all required training, meetings and program activities.

Essential Functions

  • Directly interacts with Participants living at the program to act as a role model, support their individual goals and help them to be successful at Oasis Village.
  • Follows all program policies and procedures, including interactions with Participants and employees.
  • Shows compassion and is effective in engaging Participants in any needed services or activities wherever possible.
  • Identifies Participants' abilities, strengths and assets and assists them to recognize and use them.
  • Communicates with the Case Manager regularly regarding Participant progress and needs.
  • Supports the Case Manager as needed to collect relevant data, prepare Program educational materials, or other assigned tasks that benefits the program and Participants.
  • Attends required Program and all staff meetings.
  • Participates in required training opportunities offered.
  • Maintains accurate documentation.
  • Maintains confidentiality as required by HIPAA and Oasis Village’s policies and procedures.
  • Redirects conflict and helps to facilitate harmonious culture between Participants.
  • Works with the Team to help with facility cleanliness as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director/Case Manager.

Desired Qualifications

(Education, Certification, and Licensure)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree a plus.

Desired Experience

  • At least 2 years experience working with diverse communities and people who are unhoused, people who have experienced trauma, people with mental and physical health challenges or other factors that contribute to vulnerability.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction and detoxification, mental health, and community resources and recovery programs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate with Participants.
  • Ability to work well with people including, co-workers, and community partners of diverse backgrounds, and culture,
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Ability to function effectively and use good judgment in crisis situations.
  • Must be able to operate usual office equipment such as laptop, telephone, and copy machine.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday-Sunday as scheduled. Evenings, nights and weekends are required for this role.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

  • CPR Certificate/First Aid Certificate (training provided)
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License. Ability to drive for work related tasks.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to physically and/or verbally aggressive Participants
  • Stand 25% of the time; sit 50% of the time; walk 25% of the time
  • Assess and observe objects at all distances
  • At times the job requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling items, and feeling items
  • Light physical effort is required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Exposed to outdoor environment 20% of the time
  • Noise level is usually moderate
  • Job tasks may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue, but employment may require unplanned exposure.

Clearances & Health Requirements: The following background checks are conducted by Oasis Village:

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
