Duties

• Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by preparing and operating ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as A-scan ultrasound devices, tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement, and ophthalmic imaging systems.
• Conduct preliminary patient assessments including taking vital signs, recording medical history, and performing intake procedures to gather essential information for diagnosis.
• Perform ophthalmic tests such as eye refraction, visual acuity assessments, and basic ocular motility evaluations to support accurate diagnoses.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and clinical confidentiality policies while handling medical records and sensitive patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems efficiently by documenting exam results, updating patient data, and ensuring accurate medical coding for billing purposes.
• Provide direct patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring a comfortable experience during clinic visits.
• Operate specialized ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment with precision while maintaining calibration and cleanliness standards.
• Maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies and ensure all medical equipment is properly sterilized and functioning optimally.

Qualifications

• Excellent patient service skills with a focus on compassionate direct care and effective communication.
• Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and follow infection control protocols including aseptic technique.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure the confidentiality of all patient information is maintained at all times.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.
• Proficient with computers and excellent communication skills
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic with a high patient volume
• High level of attention to detail
• Proven problem-solving skills

Previous medical experience and understanding of medical terminology is preferred; however, we provide comprehensive training for the right candidate.

To cover time off and illness, you may be asked to travel to our other offices in Eagle River and Park Falls.
