MISSION:
RCMA Wimauma Community Academy, an “B” rated Title I Charter School in Hillsborough County, is seeking an energetic and passionate Middle School PE Teacher for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year!
RCMA Wimauma Community Academy, serving the area for more than twenty-five years, is dedicated to opening doors of opportunity for the children of Florida’s farmworkers and agricultural migrants. Most students in our small, community-oriented classes are English Language Learners of Central American heritage with big dreams of making their mark. Our teachers often comment on how privileged they feel to work with young people who so greatly appreciate learning! In order to best serve our student population, this community school runs a dual language program school (50:50, English/Spanish) from K-5th Grades.
Our successful K-8 Charter School is located in Wimauma, Florida in Hillsborough County. Our school serves approximately 375 children, our small size allows us to serve our students and their families on a personal level.
Redlands Christian Migrant Association, RCMA, is a non-profit corporation serving Florida agriculture workers and their children for more than fifty years. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Physical Education Teacher at the school is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive physical education and health/wellness program, that supports the physical, social, and emotional development of middle school students. The teacher provides instruction that emphasized sports-related skills, movement patterns, fitness, teamwork, collaboration, and positive sportsmanship.
In addition to core physical education instruction, the Physical Education Teacher supports and promotes student participation in middle school sports clubs, which may include soccer, cross country, volleyball, ball hockey, flag football, and basketball. The teacher monitors student progress, evaluates, outcomes, and maintains accurate student records and documentation. The teacher is responsible for communicating with all parties involved in the education of the student regarding student. The Physical Education Teacher serves on the health and wellness committees. They may serve on other committees on a volunteer basis. They participate in all required professional development programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Physical Education Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Prepares and implements lesson plans, providing appropriate learning experiences for each student.
- Establishes and enforces rules of conduct; supervises students in the gymnasium and cafeteria, or outside on the blacktop or athletic fields.
- Participates in academy-wide behavioral programs, document student behavior, and make the necessary referral.
- Demonstrates skills being taught; assists students in performing skills.
- Teaches safety rules related to each activity.
- Assesses fitness levels; performs fitness testing twice a year.
- Researches, and orders physical education and recess equipment.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates field day; develops activities; set up for activities.
- Sets up equipment prior to class.
- Monitors and evaluate student skill levels and outcomes.
- Maintains student records following established procedures and practices.
- Prepares interim progress reports and quarterly report cards.
- Prepares information sheets for participation in parent-teacher conferences.
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- May plan and supervise field trips following established procedures.
- Serves on special committees, and fulfills the responsibilities of a committee member.
- Attends planning meetings, team meetings, staff meetings, data meetings, and other meetings of groups according to membership in those groups.
- Monitors the use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attends in-service training and county workshops.
- Prepares lesson plans and materials for substitute teachers; including class lists and any special instructions related to students’ special needs.
- Supervises student Physical Education Helpers.
- Creates emergency lesson plans as required.
- Maintains regular, on-time, attendance.
- Accommodates visitors to the classroom.
- Knowledge of emergency plans for the academy, such as lockdown procedures.
- Participates in fire and other drills, as required.
- May be asked to become involved in fitness-related community activities.
- May participate in student teacher/intern program.
- Coaches select sports when offered.
- Models nondiscriminatory and equity practices in all activities.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion under the general supervision of the Charter Academy principal. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Must possess a temporary Teacher's Certificate or be Certified as required by Chapter 231.02 Florida Statutes.
- One to three years of teaching experience is preferred.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Understand child and adolescent development through documented experience and /or appropriate course work. Have an educational philosophy consistent with the learner-centered philosophy of the RCMA Charter School. Have a willingness to work in teams with degreed and non-degreed coworkers. Committed to pursuing a variety of effective instructional methods. Is committed to the learning process of the student and family. Experience with economically disadvantaged families. Knowledgeable of state and local educational standards, curricula, and assessment systems. Experience with multicultural and diverse populations and settings.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
- The PE teacher would also be asked to coach the sports that are offered, including Soccer, Ball Hockey, Volleyball, and Flag Football. A coaching stipend would be offered.
