Important Location Requirement:
This position will be based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for approximately the first two years. Following this period, depending on the project’s status and business requirements, the role is expected to relocate to either Tulsa, Oklahoma, or Houston, Texas. Candidates must be willing and able to relocate as part of the position.
About the Role:
We are hiring on behalf of our client for an experienced Electrical Engineer III. The selected candidate will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of electrical systems supporting essential infrastructure, including pipelines, compressor stations, and storage facilities.
This position requires strong expertise in power distribution, electrical system design, arc-flash safety, high-voltage equipment, and project execution. The engineer will manage projects from concept through completion while ensuring that all solutions meet operational, safety, regulatory, budget, and scheduling requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of electrical systems and power-distribution networks supporting pipelines, compressor stations, storage facilities, and other critical infrastructure.
- Provide technical expertise in power distribution, electrical schematics, and system layouts for new construction and upgrades to existing facilities.
- Integrate advanced technologies, including automation, real-time monitoring, and energy-storage systems, to improve performance and reduce operational costs.
- Review arc-flash studies and implement appropriate mitigation and fault-detection measures.
- Manage complex electrical engineering projects from initial concept through completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Apply relevant electrical design codes and standards, including NEC, NEMA, API, and IEEE.
- Work with high-voltage equipment, transformers, generators, switchgear, and related electrical infrastructure.
- Support grid integration and renewable-energy system initiatives.
- Manage procurement processes for electrical equipment and materials, including coordination with vendors and suppliers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), commissioning, testing, and startup of electrical equipment when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university; or
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering Technology field from an ABET-accredited institution, along with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- At least four years of engineering experience in natural gas, data centers, oil and energy, or a closely related industry; candidates with five or more years of relevant experience are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of power-system design, analysis, and simulation using ETAP, MATLAB, PSCAD, Simulink, or similar tools.
- Experience with power distribution, electrical schematics, system layouts, and high-voltage equipment.
- Proficiency in reviewing arc-flash studies and implementing safety improvements.
- Working knowledge of electrical design codes and standards, including NEC, NEMA, API, and IEEE.
- Experience managing the procurement of electrical equipment and materials.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace and operational safety.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general PC applications.
- Willingness to work on-site in Pittsburgh and travel up to 50%.
- Willingness to relocate to Tulsa or Houston after approximately two years, depending on business needs.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Project-management experience.
- Experience with Pre-FEED, FEED, or EPC delivery for small- to medium-sized facility projects.
- Experience designing and implementing instrumentation systems, including PLC and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems.
- Experience overseeing FAT, commissioning, testing, and startup of electrical equipment.
- Experience with grid integration and renewable-energy systems.
