What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Health Educator-Nutrition position at Redington Fairview General Hospital?
Somerset Public Health is seeking a dynamic Community Health Educator to help lead local nutrition and food systems work as part of an emerging statewide initiative connecting nutrition, prevention, and community health. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with people across Somerset County while helping shape how communities use food, education, and partnership to improve health.
This is an active, community-facing role. One day you might be leading a cooking demonstration, the next guiding a grocery store tour, supporting a community garden, or working with healthcare partners on food-as-medicine approaches. You will engage people across the lifespan—from young children and families to older adults—translating nutrition science into practical strategies people can use in their everyday lives.
Community Health Educators at SPH are connectors and problem-solvers. In this role, you will build partnerships with schools, healthcare organizations, and community groups to expand nutrition knowledge, address food insecurity, and strengthen healthy environments. The work blends direct education, community partnership, and public health strategies to help individuals and communities make healthier choices.
We are looking for someone who is energized by engaging with people, comfortable facilitating demonstrations and conversations, and is motivated by seeing real impact from their work. The ideal candidate is adaptable, creative, and believes meaningful community health work begins with listening, building relationships, and responding to community needs.
If you want your work to be practical, visible, and community-driven—and you are excited about helping improve health through food, education, and partnership—we encourage you to apply. Somerset Public Health offers the opportunity to work with a collaborative team committed to strengthening the health of our community.
