Field Service Engineer II/III

COMPENSATION: $85,000-$120,000 DOE

About the Job
Independently perform calibration, repair, troubleshooting, installation, and service support for advanced dimensional metrology equipment in the field. This role supports complex installations, commissioning activities, preventive maintenance, service contract execution, customer training, and advanced software implementation while serving as a senior technical resource within the field organization.
Successful candidates are highly independent problem-solvers who can diagnose complex technical issues, support customers in demanding environments, and provide technical leadership across multiple product families. This role is expected to contribute beyond day-to-day service execution by mentoring junior engineers, supporting process improvements, and helping strengthen overall field service capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair advanced dimensional metrology equipment
- Perform complex mechanical, electrical, and software troubleshooting
- Lead installation, commissioning, and system validation activities
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot measurement software
- Perform software upgrades and advanced system configuration
- Execute preventive maintenance and repair activities under service contracts
- Prepare service plans, including parts identification and technical readiness
- Manage repair parts usage and ensure preparedness for field assignments
- Provide operator training and technical guidance to customers
- Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and service outcomes to customers
- Support advanced customer discussions and technical demonstrations
- Serve as a senior technical resource during escalated or high-complexity service events
- Provide technical guidance during challenging service situations
Qualifications
Required:
- 3 years of field service, repair, or closely related technical experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, software, and system-level issues
- Advanced installation and commissioning experience
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a travel-heavy field service environment
- Ability to serve as a senior technical resource and mentor less-experienced engineers
- Ability to travel extensively (75% )
Preferred:
- Associate degree or equivalent technical experience
- Experience supporting dimensional metrology equipment or other precision technical systems
- Experience with CMMs, vision systems, or similarly complex precision measurement platforms
- Experience with installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and field diagnostics
- Familiarity with measurement software, calibration workflows, and structured service execution
- Experience supporting semiconductor equipment, laboratory instrumentation, automation systems, medical equipment, or other complex technical platforms
- Interest in helping build, improve, and scale field service processes and team capability
