JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF POSITION:
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To assist the principal and act in his/her capacity during his/her absence; to be responsible for the general operation of the school, performing described duties and other designated responsibilities deemed necessary by the principal.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
l. Assist the principal in the organization, supervision and evaluation of the educational program.
2. Assist the principal in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of certificated and classified staffs.
3. Assist the principal in developing policies and procedures covering all extra-curricular activities.
4. Assist the principal in maintaining an atmosphere conducive to meeting the educational needs of students.
5. Assist the principal in the development and implementation of policies related to a preventative discipline program.
6. Assist the principal in developing an effective system of communicating with parents.
7. Assist the principal in developing and implementing an effective attendance policy.
8. Assist the principal in the development and implementation of the testing program (C.T.B.S./Proficiency, etc.).
9. Assist the principal in the development of curriculum and courses of study to meet the needs and interest of the students.
10. Enforces rules and regulations in accordance with school and district policy.
11. Represents the school when students are interviewed by the policy department.
12. Observes selected students in a classroom setting, and in consultation with teacher/parent/or other significant adults; develops an educational plan or behavior program that will help facilitate student learning.
13. Develop behavioral programs for individual students who have specific behavior/learning problems.
14. Be responsible for the utilizing outside sources in the interest of helping students who have needs that fall beyond the scope of current school resources.
15. Assist the principal in providing in-service education for school staff.
16. Assist in the development and implementation of a program to disseminate information to students and parents in areas such as test results, program selection, career information, etc.
17. Assist the principal in developing and implementing a procedure for scheduling students.
18. Responsible for selecting coaches for extra-curricular sports and serves as athletic director.
19. Shall participate as a member of the management team and attend administrative council meetings.
20. Shall be a member of the Child Study Team and be a representative at I.E.P. meetings.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a California Administrative Credential and have five years of successful experience in education with evidence of increasing responsibility and leadership potential.
