Sr. Electrical Engineer (Controls Engineering) (12 month contract // North Haven, CT):

Top Required Skills:

  2. Experience developing process improvements to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of manufacturing systems.

  4. Proficient in electrical and controls design with experience using NFPA standards
  5. Experience with automated assembly equipment and programming:
  • Rockwell Automation systems
  • PLC and Safety PLC platforms (GuardLogix, CompactLogix and ControlLogix Platforms)
  • HMI’s (FactoryTalk)
  • Vision Inspection systems (Need Cognex)
  • Robotics (Prefer Staubli)
  • Servo and stepper motion control and controllers

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow and help implement best practices and standard procedures.
  • Communicate technically with various internal departments to ensure that equipment is implemented in compliance with EHS standards and the equipment provided makes high quality assemblies to meet all product requirements.
  • Be responsible for providing all documentation required to support assembly equipment. This includes but is not limited to operating instructions, electrical schematics, specifications, parameter settings, software backups, defining documents, etc.
  • Will write FAT, SAT, and execution of Installation Qualification (IQ) functional protocol challenges.

Education: BS Electrical / Controls / Electromechanical Engineering preferred

Years of Experience: 3-5 years of Controls Engineering

Description: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the electrical/controls support of various manufacturing areas within the General Surgical Products Focus Factory. This includes being the project lead in cost savings, manufacturing process improvements, assembly equipment retrofit projects, and new equipment procurement.

Duties:

  • Provide technical support to maintenance as required.
  • Address appropriately related manufacturing issues on a daily basis as need.
  • Troubleshoot machine stoppages and provide root cause analysis for manufacturing teams.
  • Key participant in DFMEA, PFMEA, Machine Risk Assessments, and quality (CTQ) processes assuring specifications are well defined and documented.
  • Key participant in equipment specifications, supplier selection, and qualification activities.
  • Key participant in all Validation activities.
  • Ability to read Electrical schematics.
  • Create and provide equipment specifications to vendors for quoting automated and manual equipment.
  • Review and develop process improvements to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of manufacturing systems.
  • Review equipment quotes, design reviews and work with project teams to provide custom assembly equipment.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with multiple functional groups both within and outside of operations.
  • 10% travel to manufacturing sites and supplier visits required (Domestic).

  • Experience with HMI’s (FactoryTalk ME/SE)
  • Experience with vision inspection systems (Cognex and Keyence)
  • Experience with robotics (Staubli, Yamaha, FANUC, and Epson)
  • Experience with servo and stepper motion control and controllers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with equipment specifications, supplier selection, and qualification activities
  • Solid presentation and computer skills (Excel / Word / PowerPoint / Project / AutoCad, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Solid experience in trouble shooting equipment using conventional diagnostic tools
  • Experience with machine risk assessment methodology and required electrical safety circuitry

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of data acquisition, IoT trends in manufacturing and manufacturing networking architecture is a plus
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude a plus
