Position Description
The Building Performance Engineer delivers ongoing HVAC Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) support for global facilities, translating building analytics into actionable maintenance and optimization improvements. The role partners with facilities, operations, and BAS teams to identify HVAC issues, develop operational and control optimization recommendations, and support analytics deployment to improve performance, comfort, and energy efficiency. This role directly supports Medtronic’s operational excellence, energy efficiency, and smart building initiatives through data driven HVAC optimization across global facilities.
Duties:
- Provide ongoing HVAC Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) support for global facilities, independently managing assigned building performance efforts and translating analytics insights into actionable maintenance and optimization improvements.
- Lead recurring service meetings with facilities, operations, energy teams, and BAS engineers.
- Review building documentation (mechanical drawings, BAS documentation, control sequences, TAB reports) to understand system design intent.
- Analyze building analytics data to identify HVAC faults, inefficiencies, and operational issues.
- Develop and prioritize maintenance and optimization recommendations, including control sequence improvements, setpoint adjustments, and scheduling optimization.
- Create data driven visualizations to communicate findings and quantify operational and energy impacts.
- Clearly communicate technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with BAS vendors and controls contractors to support data driven maintenance and optimization efforts.
- Support internal teams during FDD deployment and analytics onboarding.
Must Have:
- Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A)
- 2 years experience in HVAC systems, building operations, commissioning, or related facilities engineering roles
- Working knowledge of:
- Airside and central plant HVAC systems.
- Building Automation Systems (BAS) and control strategies.
- HVAC sequences of operation and system interactions.
- Experience analyzing HVAC performance data, trends, alarms, and operational behavior.
- Ability to independently develop technical recommendations based on system performance data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be willing to travel up to 10% to support site engagement, deployment activities, and collaboration.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) platforms, including Clockworks Analytics or similar building performance analytics tools.
- Experience with advanced Building Automation Systems, including Niagara based or other enterprise BAS platforms.
- Experience navigating BAS front ends, reviewing control logic, and supporting data driven troubleshooting and optimization efforts.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and data driven maintenance workflows.
- Experience working collaboratively with BAS vendors or controls contractors.
- Familiarity with energy management, sustainability initiatives, or smart building technologies.
