Role Description
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Fire Alarm Technician to install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial settings. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of fire alarm equipment, applicable codes and standards, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Install fire alarm systems, devices, and related equipment according to plans, specifications, and code requirements
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems
- Diagnose and repair system faults, wiring issues, and device malfunctions
- Program, configure, and commission fire alarm control panels and peripheral devices
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
- Ensure all work complies with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures
- Complete service reports, inspection documentation, and work orders accurately and on time
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and repair needs clearly to supervisors and customers
- Coordinate with project managers, electricians, contractors, and AHJs as needed
- Maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicle in good working order
- Respond to service calls and emergency repairs when required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in fire alarm installation, service, or inspection preferred
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems, low-voltage wiring, and life safety systems
- Ability to read electrical drawings and technical documents
- Familiarity with NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire and building codes
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- NICET certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Manufacturer certifications on fire alarm systems
- Experience with access control, CCTV, or other low-voltage systems
- OSHA safety training or related field certifications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access tight spaces
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying job site conditions
Work Environment
- Commercial buildings, industrial facilities, construction sites, schools, healthcare facilities, and other customer locations
- May require local and regional travel, after-hours work, or on-call availability depending on business needs.
Salary Range
- $50,000 - $60,000 per year
