The Head Driver is responsible for supporting transportation operations at their assigned location by coordinating closely with Transportation Supervisors. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Transportation Supervisor’s point of contact, observing operations closely and communicating all relevant information.
- Safely operate and oversee vehicles and equipment, ensuring strict adherence to all traffic rules and safety regulations.
- Model expected behaviors, applying sound judgment and maintaining a proactive approach to address team needs and operational demands.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with driver teams and supervisors to ensure clear understanding of expectations and updates.
- Develop driver teams through coaching and training, identifying and addressing specific training needs.
- Oversee and optimize driver routing, resolve route-related issues, and promote efficient trailer loading and unloading.
- Help coordinate daily transportation activities, including donor service, fleet maintenance, and support of retail store delivery needs.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to prioritize compliance with all safety guidelines.
- Complete pickup routes as needed, alongside other responsibilities to support team and operational goals.
- Maintain a clear understanding of company goals and mission, communicating these to team members as well as donors.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and stay informed of organizational policies and updates.
- Experience with systems overseeing routing, tracking, and the management of trailers and fleet maintenance, along with a fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a motor vehicle records check
- Ability to operate a box truck in a safe and efficient manner
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to driving a large commercial vehicle
- Ability to work independently and follow a set schedule
- Ability to maneuver the truck in tight spaces and operate the box truck used to pick up donations
- Flexibility in schedule to accommodate changes in pickup routes or schedules
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and carry it for short distances
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods of time
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, including box trucks and compactors
- Visual acuity to read road signs, maps, and operating instructions
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating truck controls and handling bags and boxes
- Strong back and abdominal muscles to maintain proper posture while operating equipment and lifting heavy objects
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Good hearing to detect warning signals and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment health screening and motor vehicles record check
