SUMMARY: The CNC Mill Setup & Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC milling equipment to produce precision components that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This position performs machine setups, verifies program accuracy, inspects finished parts, and supports continuous production through effective troubleshooting and machine operation.

SCHEDULE: Monday–Thursday, 5:00am-3:00pm. Friday overtime may be available based on production needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes the following but other duties may be assigned)

  • Set up and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines to manufacture precision components.
  • Perform machine setups, including work offsets, tool touch-offs, probing routines, and tool offset adjustments.
  • Review blueprints, engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work instructions to determine machining sequence, dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
  • Verify machine setup through first-piece inspections and trial runs to ensure conformity to specifications.
  • Monitor machining operations, making offsets and adjustments as necessary to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
  • Inspect completed parts using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, and other inspection tools.
  • Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements during setup and inspection.
  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, workholding devices, and cutting tools appropriate for each machining operation.
  • Identify machining issues and collaborate with programmers, engineers, and production personnel to resolve setup or process concerns.
  • Perform routine operator preventive maintenance and maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company and ISO requirements.
  • Support manufacturing operations by operating additional CNC equipment or assisting with machining activities as production demands require.
  • Work overtime as needed to support production schedules.
  • Set-up moderately complex jobs and operate conventional, special-purpose, and computerized numerical control (CNC)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years of CNC milling experience, including machine setup responsibilities.
  • Experience setting up and operating 3-axis CNC mills, including probing, tool touch-offs, work offsets, and tool offset adjustments.
  • Working knowledge of standard milling practices, machining techniques, tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and machining processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment to verify part dimensions and ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Experience machining tight-tolerance components in a regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience operating manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders preferred.
  • Experience with Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, or 5-axis CNC milling preferred.

  • Ability to independently perform setups and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work safely and follow documented processes and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee may occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

The employee will typically work in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to high noise levels from machinery, moving machine parts, and other physical hazards.
