The Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks as a member of a stormwater drainage maintenance and repair crew, under the general direction of the Public Works Streets and Drainage Supervisor. This individual safely performs manual labor tasks and operates tools and equipment to build, repair and maintain municipal stormwater systems.
- Represents the City of Red Oak in a professional, appropriate manner at all times
- Performs various tasks such as:
- Repairing concrete and/or asphalt pavement
- maintenance and repair of storm-drain inlets and flumes
- inspect, maintain, clean, and repair stormwater pipes and drainage ditches
- trash & debris clean-up on streets and right-of-ways
- barricade maintenance
- tree trimming
- ice & flood control
- excavating by use of hand tools
- weed eating
- mowing
- Operates a variety of Public Works equipment relative to work assignments, including:
- Jackhammers
- Spray paint guns
- Rollers
- Front-end loaders
- Tamper
- Chainsaws
- Weed eaters & mowers
- Trucks
- Assists in painting or installing buttons, crosswalks, and other traffic markings
- Assists in the clearing of roadways
- Assists in street department projects
- Supports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions
- Performs all job duties, tasks, and activities according to work instructions, defined procedures, and policies
- Performs all work activities in a safe manner and follows all safety rules
- Performs related duties as assigned or required by supervisor
- Identifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends, or provides solutions as appropriate
- Keeps work areas clean and orderly
- Exemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with others
- Protects classified, confidential, and sensitive information
- High School diploma or GED required
- Entry level position, previous experience as a laborer or in construction is preferred but not required. On the job training will be provided.
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment listed above
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clear driving record
- NIMS Training obtained within 3 months of hire
- Ability to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s permit within 6 months, and Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year of hire
- Ability to attain skills for proper use and care of gas and electric tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in public works streets and drainage utility projects
- Ability to attain knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform tasks safely
- Basic written and spoken English language skills and the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Basic math skills including ability to perform accurate measurements
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and maintain effective work relationships
- Ability to respond appropriately to requests and inquiries
- Ability to make sound decisions and effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner
- Ability to abide by all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ability to safely perform all physical requirements of the job, including strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions
