The City of Red Oak offers college students or recent graduates the opportunity to gain real-world experience within an award-winning Communications and Marketing Department. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting graphic design, content creation, social media, and event coordination. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, interns will contribute to a variety of projects while receiving valuable mentorship and feedback.
Typical work schedules vary but will primarily be within operating hours (Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm) and are limited to up to 20 hours per week.

- Assist with the design and production of graphics and visual materials for City communications, including social media posts, flyers, brochures, presentations, signage, and digital campaigns, ensuring all materials align with City branding standards, accessibility (ADA) guidelines, and best practices.
- Support the development of creative concepts and visual layouts that effectively communicate City initiatives, programs, and events.
- Assist in creating visually engaging content for City social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Nextdoor).
- Assist in tracking and analyzing performance of visual content across digital platforms and assist in identifying opportunities to improve engagement and effectiveness.
- Capture and edit photography and video of City events, programs, projects, and daily operations for use in marketing and public information.
- Assist with updates to the City of Red Oak website, including uploading graphics, photos, and visual content.
- Support the planning, coordination, and promotion of City-wide, departmental, and partnered events, including the creation of event-related marketing materials.
- Provide on-site support at events, which may include evenings or weekends, assisting with setup, content capture, and public interaction.
- Conduct research and gather inspiration to support creative direction, design trends, and campaign development.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas for campaigns, graphics, and public communication efforts.
- Provide general support to the Communications and Marketing team and other departments as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED required
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a college or university in a relevant Bachelor's or Master's academic program
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clear driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or similar).
- Basic understanding of layout, typography, color, and visual branding principles.
- Experience creating graphics for social media, print, and digital platforms preferred.
- Basic photography and videography skills, including editing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative thinking with strong attention to detail and a focus on producing high-quality work.
