The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all project safety requirements and maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel on site. This position requires strong leadership, the ability to recognize and correct hazards, and the capability to manage safety programs across multiple crews and subcontractors.
Job Specific Details:
- Per diem is available for candidates who live outside of 60-mile radius of Blythewood, SC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) hazards on the jobsite.
- Exercise full authority to take immediate corrective action when safety violations or hazards are observed.
- Implement, maintain, and communicate safety policies, procedures, and best practices across the site.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, incident investigations, and safety meetings.
- Ensure proper reporting and documentation of safety activities, incidents, and compliance measures.
- Oversee subcontractor safety compliance and conduct safety orientations when required.
- Coordinate with project leadership to proactively manage safety risks.
- Serve as the primary on-site safety resource for employees and subcontractors.
Required Qualifications:
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification (Construction).
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Recognized as a Competent Person in relevant areas of expertise (ex. excavation, electrical safety).
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a full-time construction safety professional OR a minimum 5 years of experience as a construction safety manager.
- Ability to recognize hazards and implement corrective measures effectively.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Must be dedicated exclusively to EHS responsibilities—dual roles are not permitted.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or a related field.
- Professional safety designation such as CSP, ASP, or CHST.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to manage safety responsibilities for up to 75 employees; additional EHS Managers may be required for larger crews.
- Must be assigned prior to mobilization and able to support multiple crews if site distance allows.
- Must meet all compliance criteria and provide required certifications and resume for approval.
Physical Involvement:
Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.
Mental Involvement:
Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects; picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawing or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked; following oral and/or written directions, plans and blueprints; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.
Work Environment Factors:
- Location: industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop
- Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas
- Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances
