TITLE: Athletic Director/PE Teacher – District Wide
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Eleven (11) months
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Certified Exempt Salary Schedule (EXEMPT)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To work cooperatively with all district principals in fulfilling the leadership role for school athletics. To coordinate and promote excellence in extracurricular athletic activities that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Responsible for the organization and administering of the overall athletic program for the middle and high school athletes of Red Mesa Unified School District.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members at the middle and high school level.
- Works collaboratively with the school district and community agencies and athletic program to include a variety of recreational and sports activities on a year-round basis.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Hires officials, team physicians, and police officers as required, and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when the opponent is 50 miles or more from a district boundary line.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletes.
- Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete’s eligibility.
- Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
- Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
- Responsible for game management at all home interscholastic contests, and when admission is charged, is responsible for the safekeeping and deposit of gate receipts.
- Arranges field and gym practice schedules for all athletic teams.
- Provides for the physical examination of all athletes, at end of school year and at beginning of new school year.
- Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
- Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the rules and by laws of Arizona Interscholastic Association (A.I.A), NAIC, and NEAAA.
- Responsible for game management and attends all home athletic/interscholastic contests and/or arranges for proper supervision.
- Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams. Follows NO PASS – NO, PLAY guidelines.
- Coordinates the use of athletic facilities with the respective building principal and by groups outside the district.
- Responsible for all recommendations for improvement of facilities, which will be directed through the line of authority to the superintendent for consideration or referral at his discretion.
- Assumes responsibility for assignment of keys to athletic facilities and gymnasium.
- Represents the school in all athletic business at league, conference and state meetings.
- Adheres to the requirements of State Law and school district policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the department.
- Ability to perceive organization implications of recommendations and decisions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management both internal and external to the department.
- Communicates matters of importance to staff, parents, community and administration.
- Informs the superintendent of successes, concerns, problems, and needs of the program.
- Schedules, organizes, and attends meetings as necessary.
CERTIFICATION: Standard Arizona Teacher Certificate (Administrative/Supervisory Certification preferred), Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Minimum a Bachelor degree; Master’s Degree in Education preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Athletic Director Experience at the High School level. (Preferred)
- Five years classroom teaching experience. (Preferred)
- Five years coaching experience at the high school varsity or collegiate levels.
REPORT TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- District Coaches
EVALUATION: The superintendent is responsible for the appraisal of the District Athletic Director, which shall be conducted once annually.
TITLE: Physical Education (PE) Teacher – K-12
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Ten (10) months.
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Certified Salary Schedule (EXEMPT)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, teaches one or more classes in the field of Physical Ed to students in grades K through 12, assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability.
