Farm Mechanic

Red Fire Farm is seeking an experienced farm mechanic to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, box trucks, field trucks, harvesters, and irrigation systems. This position starts immediately.

Job tasks include but are not limited to:

• Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems.
• Service vehicles to maintain functionality.
• Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments as necessary.
• Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Prepare vehicles for inspection.
• Order parts.

• Record details of repairs made and parts used.

• Maintain repair and maintenance records for each vehicle.

• Examine and listen to equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with farmers to locate and diagnose malfunctions.
• Confer with farmers or users to assess problems.
• Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools.
• Test electrical circuits or components for proper functioning.
• Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, lathes, welding equipment, grinders, or saws.
• Clean and lubricate parts.
• Tune or overhaul engines.
• Adjust vehicle components according to specifications.
• Drive trucks or tractors to haul tools and equipment for on-site repair of large machinery.
• Install and repair agricultural irrigation, plumbing, and sprinkler systems.
• Install piping for installation or maintenance activities.
• Repair pipes to stop leaking.
• Road and field visits for equipment repairs as needed.
• Train staff in use and care of vehicles and equipment

Requirements

• Applicants MUST have a valid driver's license to be considered for the position; no exceptions.
• Bring tools for the job
• A desire and willingness to work outside (in the rain and the heat & cold too)

Schedule & Hours

• We are open to you setting your own schedule as long as the work gets done

Location: 184 Meadow Road in Montague & 7 Carver Street in Granby, MA as needed

Job Type: Full-time in the growing season, part time in the winter. We are also open to a skilled mechanic who has part time availability in the summer.

Pay: Hourly wage commensurate with experience
