Position Summary

The Senior Event Sales Consultant is responsible for developing and managing high-value catering and event accounts from initial consultation through contract execution and strategic transition to event production.

This is a consultative sales and account-management position that exercises independent judgment over matters affecting revenue, pricing, client relationships and operational feasibility.

Working under the general direction of the Senior Sales Manager, the Senior Event Sales Consultant evaluates prospective business, develops tailored client solutions, establishes pricing recommendations, negotiates commercial terms within established authority and determines the appropriate sales strategy for assigned accounts.


Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSales Strategy and Business Development
  • Independently manage an assigned portfolio of prospective and existing clients, including private, corporate, nonprofit, wedding, venue and planner accounts.
  • Evaluate incoming opportunities based on client objectives, budget, event complexity, revenue potential, operational feasibility, brand alignment and company capacity.
  • Determine the appropriate sales strategy, service model and client approach for assigned opportunities.
  • Conduct in-depth discovery consultations to assess client priorities, experience expectations, financial parameters, decision-making structure and event requirements.
  • Develop customized culinary, beverage, staffing, rental, production and hospitality solutions in collaboration with company leadership and department experts.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the scope, value and quality of client engagements while protecting the integrity of the guest experience.
  • Build and maintain a qualified sales pipeline and independently establish follow-up, conversion and account-development strategies.
  • Cultivate repeat and referral business through strategic account stewardship and relationship management.
  • Represent The Red Door at selected industry functions, venue events, open houses, tastings and business-development opportunities.
Client Advisory and Account Authority
  • Serve as the primary strategic advisor and relationship owner for assigned clients throughout the sales process.
  • Translate client goals into cohesive culinary and hospitality experiences that reflect The Red Door's service and brand standards.
  • Resolve complex client concerns using independent judgment, diplomacy and commercially sound solutions.
  • Identify issues that may affect client satisfaction, financial performance, contractual commitments or company reputation and determine an appropriate course of action.
  • Establish clear expectations with clients regarding pricing, deadlines, decision points, payment obligations and operational limitations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion regarding client, company and financial information.
Proposal and Contract Leadership
  • Direct the development of comprehensive proposals that accurately reflect the approved event concept, pricing strategy and scope of services.
  • Review proposals, agreements and client-facing documents for accuracy, completeness, consistency and financial integrity before presentation.
  • Lead proposal presentations and communicate the value, rationale and operational requirements of recommended solutions.
  • Ensure that material changes affecting pricing, staffing, production, risk or profitability are appropriately evaluated and documented.
  • Partner with leadership on complex contractual matters, significant exceptions and high-risk engagements.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Lead the strategic transition of confirmed events from sales to production and operations.
  • Establish the event's commercial intent, client priorities, contracted scope, service expectations and known risks for the internal production team.
  • Collaborate with culinary, beverage, production, operations and finance leaders to confirm that proposed experiences are executable, appropriately priced and aligned with company standards.
  • Facilitate internal decision-making when client requests, budget limitations and operational requirements compete.
  • Provide strategic direction to Event Producers regarding client commitments, priorities, sensitivities and intended experience.
  • Support the development of menus, service models, event packages and client experiences based on market demand and company strategy.
Venue and Industry Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with venues, planners, producers, vendors and community partners.
  • Represent The Red Door with professionalism, discretion and strong hospitality judgment.
  • Evaluate partnership opportunities based on brand alignment, revenue potential, operational requirements and long-term business value.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen preferred-vendor relationships, referral partnerships and market visibility.
Required Qualifications
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in catering sales, luxury hospitality, hotel sales, private dining, event production or a related client-advisory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, high-value client accounts and developing pricing recommendations.
  • Experience negotiating scope, pricing and service terms.
  • Strong understanding of catered-event operations, including menus, staffing, service, rentals, logistics and production requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on significant client and business matters.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and consultative communication skills.
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to balance client experience, profitability, operational feasibility and company standards.
  • Ability to analyze multiple possible courses of action and make sound, timely decisions under general supervision.
  • Proficiency with catering, customer relationship management, event-management or proposal software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to maintain confidential financial, client, employee and company information.
  • Ability to travel to client meetings, venue walkthroughs, tastings and events as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Established relationships within the San Francisco Bay Area wedding, corporate, venue or event community.
  • Experience selling premium catered events with significant culinary, beverage, staffing, rental and production components.
  • Experience with Tripleseat or a comparable catering and event-management platform.
  • Experience evaluating food, labor, rental and production costs.
  • Knowledge of sustainable sourcing and environmentally responsible event practices.
  • Culinary education, hospitality education or equivalent professional experience.
Work Schedule

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. The position primarily works during regular business hours but requires flexibility based on client and event needs. Occasional evening, weekend and holiday availability is required for tastings, venue walkthroughs, client meetings, industry events and selected event execution.

The Senior Event Sales Consultant is responsible for managing their schedule and priorities to meet the responsibilities and performance expectations of the position.


Travel

Regular travel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area is required, with occasional travel to the Central Coast and other event destinations.


Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 annually. The starting salary will be determined based on job-related experience, demonstrated qualifications, specialized knowledge, scope of responsibility and legitimate business needs.
