The Emergency Room Nurse is a critical member of the healthcare team responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing acute medical emergencies. This role requires strong clinical judgment, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ER Nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Compensation: $35.00hr - $45.00hr
Hours: PRN
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients in the emergency department, including obtaining medical histories and performing physical examinations.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and best practices.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians and according to hospital policies.
- Monitor and document patients’ vital signs, changes in condition, and responses to treatment.
- Collaborate with physicians, emergency technicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective care.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and post-discharge care.
- Assist in managing multiple patients in a high-stress environment, prioritizing care based on the severity of conditions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to hospital policies and protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and practices in emergency nursing through ongoing education and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Previous experience in emergency nursing or a critical care setting preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving patients.
- Capacity to respond quickly to emergency situations and provide necessary interventions.
