Job Summary: Red Barn Market & Deli is a full service deli with grocery and take-out/deli items in South Burlington. We are looking for a year round reliable, customer focused counter person and expo person with great customer service to join our growing team.

Our hours of operation are 7am-5pm Monday-Friday. We are closed weekends and most federal holidays.

We ask that you are available to work during these hours, but your shift will be 10am to close.

Pay will start at $15/HR plus shared tips that average $20 /HR.

The Cashier portion of the job will be the front face of the market.

Essential duties include:

• Checking out customers using a POS system
• Servicing the coffee bar
• Stocking beverages, grocery items, beer, and wine
• Answering customer questions
• Making product recommendations to customers
• Selling beer and wine (must be over 16 years of age)
• Cleaning
• And other duties as assigned

The Deli clerk portion duties will include:

• Taking orders in person and over the phone
• Wrapping sandwiches
• bagging completed orders
• calling out orders to customers

Responsibilities:

- Greet customers and provide a positive and welcoming atmosphere
- Prepare and package food products for sale, ensuring quality and presentation standards are met
- Operate a cash register and handle cash, credit card transactions, and other forms of payment
- Manage time effectively to ensure timely and efficient service to customers
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards
- Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and addressing concerns in a professional manner
- Keeping the market inventory well stocked
- Maintain knowledge of menu, products, and services offered by the establishment
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve sales goals and maintain a positive and supportive work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by management

Skills:

- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and move quickly
- Basic math skills
- Proficiency in using a point-of-sale system
- Experience in the food industry, preferably in a deli or food service setting (not required)
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a positive attitude
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation
- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to lift and carry objects, as needed
- Cash handling and basic math skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment

There is the potential to cross-training in the deli so prior food service experience is preferred but not required.

• 2 years of reliable customer service experience
• 2 years of cash handling experience
• Previous POS experience
• Be of legal age to sell alcohol in the State of Vermont (16 years old)
• Have acknowledgement of beer and wine preferred but not required
• Previous food service experience preferred but not required
