Monmouth Day Care Center (Preschool Program)
Position: Janitor
Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Occasional weekends: flexible schedule
Hours: 4:00 pm-10:00 pm
Salary: $ 24.00-25.00/hour
Position Summary
The Custodian ensures a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for children (Infants to 6 years old), staff, and visitors in compliance with the Department of Health (DOH), CDC, Licensing Regulations, and Grow NJ Kids standards. The role includes daily cleaning, building maintenance, supply inventory, and facility safety.
Daily Cleaning and Sanitation:
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
- Replenish hygiene and sanitation supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, disinfectant).
- Remove trash and recyclables according to Red Bank’s sanitation schedules.
Facility Maintenance and Monitoring:
- Conduct daily facility and classroom walkthroughs to identify safety or cleanliness concerns.
- Address repairs as needed.
- Report major maintenance issues promptly to the Executive Director or Operations Director.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure egress paths are clear, and fire exits are functional.
- Follow cleaning protocols for illness prevention and outbreak control.
- Support emergency drills by ensuring accessibility and cleanliness of designated areas.
Operational Support:
- Set up and break down classrooms or common areas for special events.
- Accept store deliveries and janitorial supplies.
- Maintain accurate cleaning logs and supply inventories as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate respectfully with supervisors, board of trustees members, staff, children, and families.
- Participate in staff meetings, board of trustees meetings, and required training on health and safety standards.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Custodial or facility support experience preferred, especially in childcare or school settings.
- Ability to read, follow safety instructions, and cleaning protocols.
- Must pass all background checks required per the state of New Jersey Licensing requirements, such as CARI and IdentoGo.
Physical Requirements
● Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist.
● Physical ability to lift 40 lbs. or more, bend, reach, and be on feet for extended periods
● Ability to pull and push a minimum of 25 lbs.
