What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Associate - Beverage & Spirits position at Red Apple Food & Liquor?
Red Apple Market is a family-owned liquor store that has served Braintree for over 25 years. We treat our team well, and we expect a lot in return. Please read this whole posting. If it sounds like too much, this isn’t the job for you, and that’s fine.
What this job is
You’ll run the register, help customers, and stock and organize the store. Some days are busy at the counter, and some days you’re unloading deliveries in the back. It’s physical, it’s detail-heavy, and you’ll be legally responsible for how you handle alcohol sales.
What we need from you
- Show up, on time, every scheduled shift. The store can’t open or run properly if someone is missing. If you’re late, you’re late to a job where others are depending on you. We’ll ask about attendance in the interview, and we’ll check references.
- Work evenings and weekends. These are our busiest times, and they’re not optional. Please apply only if you can reliably work them.
- Check ID every time, for every age-restricted sale. No exceptions for regulars, for people who “look old enough,” or for when it’s busy. A mistake can cost the store its license and cost you your job.
- Be accurate with cash. Your drawer must balance. We’ll train you, but we expect care and focus, not shortcuts.
- Pay attention to detail. That means correct prices, rotated stock, labels facing out, coolers full, and floors clean. If you tend to rush through tasks or leave them half-finished, this role will be frustrating for both of us.
- Look professional. Come to work clean and neat, in appropriate clothing. You’re the face of the store.
- Do the physical work. You must be able to lift [35–50] lbs repeatedly and stand for long periods. You’ll unload deliveries, move cases, and stock shelves and coolers.
- Stay off your phone while on the clock. Customers and the register come first.
- Be friendly, even on a bad day. You’ll greet every customer, answer questions, and handle the occasional difficult person calmly.
- Take initiative. If something needs doing, such as restocking, cleaning, or flagging low inventory, do it or tell a manager without being asked.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Reliable transportation to get to work on time
- Retail, cashier, or stocking experience is helpful but not required. Attitude and reliability matter more than experience.
