Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Small Animal Vivarium Manager to oversee and manage all personnel and operations associated with a small animal laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care, regulatory compliance, and team leadership in a vivarium or preclinical research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations of the small animal facility, ensuring all production, quality, and animal welfare activities are completed in a timely and compliant manner.
- Ensure strict adherence to internal protocols and external regulatory standards, including cGMP compliance.
- Provide ongoing training and mentorship to department staff.
- Oversee facility needs such as equipment calibration and maintenance, pest control, environmental monitoring, and housekeeping.
- Monitor proper usage of approved materials, validated equipment, and current SOPs and specifications.
- Initiate or assist with validations, change controls, and CAPAs as required.
- Support internal and external audits and maintain audit readiness.
- Serve as a departmental role model, ensuring adherence to all corporate policies and quality standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in laboratory animal science or vivarium operations
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (Windows-based systems)
- Working knowledge of cGMP quality systems and manufacturing or research operations
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proven ability to lead, train, and hold team members accountable
- Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a scientific field or equivalent hands-on experience
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based with occasional exposure to laboratory/vivarium environments
- May require stair climbing or walking between facilities during the day
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift or move up to 10 lbs
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
