Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm Full-Time / Part-Time: Full-Time Classification: Non-Exempt
We offer a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.
Summary/Objective
Essential Functions
The Pathology Biomedical Technician is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and
occasionally performing routine maintenance and repairs of laboratory instruments at
multiple sites.
- Perform scheduled maintenance inspections and performance assurance inspections on equipment to ensure safe and effective operating conditions
- Test and calibrate components using a variety of manuals, troubleshooting techniques, and code requirements as applicable
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies
- Ensure documentation is complete, timely, and accurate
- Coordinate repairs, maintenance, and new instrument installation with multiple
vendors
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions with accuracy and precision
Minimum Job Requirements
- Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences, or related field, or equivalent military training
- 3-5 years relevant experience working with biomedical equipment (specifically pathology laboratory instruments/vendors including microscopes, cassette printers, centrifuges, automated strainers, microtones, tissue processors, etc.
- CBET certification preferred
Key Skills Needed
- Ability to track, monitor, and coordinate scheduled maintenance on instruments at various sites
- Skilled proficiency in the use of tools and test equipment
- Ability to solve technical and performance problems using information from a
variety of sources
- Working knowledge of technical requirements, codes, and standards associated
with the field
- Advanced computer skills
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
Work Environment
This position operates in a laboratory environment and involves frequent standing and exposure to hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials. This position requires 10% travel up to 200 miles.
