- Design, build, and maintain email sending infrastructure at scale
- Configure and optimize mail servers (SMTP, MTA solutions like Postfix, Sendmail, or PowerMTA)
- Manage IP addresses, domain reputation, and warming strategies
- Implement load balancing and failover systems for high availability
- Monitor and improve inbox placement rates across major ISPs (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.)
- Troubleshoot delivery issues including bounces, deferrals, and spam filtering
- Analyze delivery metrics and identify patterns affecting deliverability
- Maintain sender reputation through proper authentication and list hygiene
- Implement and manage SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and BIMI records
- Ensure compliance with anti-spam regulations (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CASL)
- Handle feedback loops and abuse complaints
- Work with ISPs and postmaster teams to resolve delivery issues
- Integrate with email service providers (ESPs) or build in-house solutions
- Develop monitoring tools and alerting systems for delivery problems
- Optimize throughput and reduce latency in email pipelines
- Implement retry logic and queue management
- Strong understanding of SMTP protocol and email infrastructure
- Experience with DNS management and email authentication protocols
- Knowledge of ISP filtering practices and reputation management
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) for automation
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Grafana, ELK stack, etc.)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals
